Peran Orang Tua dalam Pembelajaran Daring Menggunakan Aplikasi WhatsApp pada Masa Pandemi Covid-19

Abstract

This study aims to determine the role of parents in online learning, the factors that
influence the role of parents in online learning, the advantages and disadvantages of online learning
using the WhatsApp application, and the role of parents in online learning using the WhatsApp
application during the Covid-19 pandemic. with qualitative research methods. The results showed
that parents of students had carried out their roles as teachers, facilitators, motivators, and directors
in online learning. This is in accordance with the theory about the role of parents in online learning
which is the reference for researchers. The obstacles experienced in the online learning process have
been overcome with solutions that are adapted to the circumstances of parents, teachers, and
students. The conclusion of this study is that parents have known and realized their role in online
learning; educational background, economic level, type of work, available time, number of family
members, too many materials and assignments are factors that affect online learning; WhatsApp's
advantages in online learning are that it is faster to deliver material, easy to use, the average parent
has WhatsApp, flexible time, economical quota, and video features make online learning more
effective; WhatsApp's shortcomings in online learning are that not all students respond to learning,
the video feature makes cellphone memory full, and the chat and voice note features are less effective
in delivering material; the role of parents in online learning as teachers, facilitators, motivators, and
directors.
